Websites for new Georgia businesses
Registered your business with the Georgia Corporations Division? Georgia splits the next steps between the state, your county and your city, which is where most new owners lose time. Here is who handles what, the one yearly deadline to remember, and what your website should show. We build that site as a working draft within 48 hours.
Where Georgia businesses register
Georgia LLCs file Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State's Corporations Division, online through eCorp. The cost is $110 — a $100 filing fee plus a $10 service charge — and online filings take about seven business days, with paid expedite options of two days or same day. Once approved, the state issues a Certificate of Organization. Every Georgia LLC needs a registered agent with a physical street address in Georgia (Corporations Division guide).
State, county, city: who handles what
- EIN — the IRS, free, online (IRS).
- Trade name — the county. If you trade under a name other than your registered one, Georgia trade names are registered with the Clerk of Superior Court in the county where you mainly do business, not with the state (Corporations Division FAQ).
- Sales and use tax — the Department of Revenue. Register through the Georgia Tax Center; the department says your tax account number arrives by email within about 15 minutes, and it asks LLCs to complete their Secretary of State registration first (Georgia DOR — register a new business).
- Licensed trades — the state licensing boards. The Secretary of State's Professional Licensing Boards Division runs 42 boards, including Residential and General Contractors, Electrical Contractors, Plumbers, Conditioned Air Contractors, and Cosmetology and Barbers (Georgia licensing boards).
- Business licence — your city or county. In the state's own words, almost every business also needs a city or county business license (First Stop Business Information Center).
- Domain, website and Google Business Profile — below, and in our Google profile guide.
Georgia's yearly deadline: annual registration, January 1 to April 1
Every Georgia LLC files an annual registration between January 1 and April 1, starting the year after it was formed. It costs $60 ($50 plus a $10 service charge), a late filing adds a $25 penalty, and an LLC that never files is administratively dissolved — reinstatement costs $260 (annual registration guide). Formed in 2026? Your first one is due between January 1 and April 1, 2027.
A Georgia first year, step by step
- Week 1–2: Articles of Organization on eCorp ($110). Online filings take about seven business days; if you need the certificate sooner, the state sells a two-day ($120 extra) or same-day ($275 extra) expedite.
- Same week: EIN from the IRS (free), then the Georgia Tax Center if you sell taxable goods — the account number arrives by email.
- Before you open: trade name at the county clerk if you need one, your board licence if your trade requires it, your city or county business licence, and the website and Google profile.
- January 1 – April 1 of next year: first annual registration ($60).
What a Georgia business website should show
- Your board licence, if you are a contractor, electrician, plumber, HVAC contractor, cosmetologist or barber — it answers a careful customer's first question.
- Your county and the towns you serve. Metro Atlanta alone spans many counties; "Cobb, Gwinnett and north Fulton" is more useful to a customer and to Google than "Atlanta area".
- One name everywhere: the registered name or the trade name filed with your county, the same on the site, the Google profile and your invoices.
- Hours, phone and a booking or quote button at the top of every page on a phone.
